Weekly Bulletin
for City High School Families

October 17, 2005

Principal’s Notes

We were pleased to have so many parents participate in conferences last week. Many parents are eager for regular communication between the school and home. The Weekly Bulletin is one way to keep in touch. The bulletins are given out to students at the end of the school day on Mondays or Tuesdays each week. They are also posted on the school website, so that parents can have direct access to them. The website is another way to keep tabs on events happening at school. School holidays and other events for students and the community are always posted on the main page of the website. One way to have regular contact between parents and teachers about individual student progress is to use email. All teachers have school email accounts and check them daily. (See below).

City High Parents
The parent-teacher organization will have its second meeting on Tuesday, October 18 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the school. The focus will be on planning the Library Work Day (see below) and the Staff Appreciation Breakfast in November, and thinking ahead about other projects. City High Parents will have its next meeting on November 15.

Library Work Day
Come volunteer at the school this Saturday morning to help get the book collection ready for check-out and to set up the library shelves. The work day will take place from 9 a.m. – noon. Students and parent are welcome to participate. Refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by City High Parents.

First Quarter Report Cards
We are at the mid-way point of the semester. Teachers are submitting grades this week for first quarter, and report cards will be sent home through the mail. Quarter grades are really a “progress report” for the semester. Students receive credits for coursework completed at the semester, and semester grades are the final grades that go on their transcripts.

In the Field
Students and teachers at City High School often take their learning out into the community. Last Wednesday, the “Audubon” City Works class went to Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and the Audubon Habitat Restoration Site in Marana. On Friday 4, students from the Audubon class spent the afternoon in Nogales, Sonora to participate in the Ambos Nogales Reforestation project’s monthly meeting. This week the “Reptile Talk” City Works class heads to Sabino Canyon on Wednesday, and the “Youth Philanthropy” City Works will be researching at the downtown library.

College Night @ Tucson Convention Center
The annual College Night at the Tucson Convention Center takes place Tuesday, October 25 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Students and parents can attend the free event. Colleges and universities from all of the country will have information tables.
