Upcoming Family Night Events: College Fair, Book Club, and More!
Every Wednesday evening is FAMILY NIGHT at City High School.
Family Nights are part of City High School’s commitment to parent and family outreach – and part of our broader efforts to provide enrichment and academic opportunities before school, after school, and during summer months (for students, of course, and sometimes for parents too!), all thanks to our 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. Please check the City High School calendar page regularly for updated event information. We know it’s a busy time of the day for families, so we always have pizza for everyone as part of the evening program!
FAMILY NIGHTS coming up:
October 5 & November 2: College Nights
All Division 2 students and parents should attend the very big annual Tucson College Fair at the Tucson Convention Center on October 5. Start the evening at 5:30 for dinner at City High School and then the group will head over to TCC together. Of course, Division 1 students and families are also encouraged to participate. It’s never too early to be thinking ahead to life after high school! On November 2 we will hold an information session on college planning designed specifically for Division 1 students and families (9th and 10th grades) here at City High School. This session will take place from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The contact person for the College Nights is Counselor Erica Saunders, 623-7223 x107.
October 12 & November 30: Family Book Club
The City High School Family Book Club will meet twice this semester to discuss Toni Morrison’s novel, A Mercy. The meetings will coincide with the 10th grade American Studies classes’ reading of A Mercy and will feature video-taped student conversations about the novel’s themes, characters and literary devices. All parent participants in the book club are welcome to borrow a copy of the novel. Students are also invited to participate in the Family Book Club meetings. Both Family Book Club meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. Pizza will be provided.
Join us on Wednesday, October 12 to learn more about the Family Book Club and the novel A Mercy. Finish reading A Mercy by Wednesday, November 30, when the Family Book Club meets again. Share your perspective on the book and hear reactions from students and other parents. For more information contact Brett Goble, American Studies Teacher, at bgoble@cityhighschool.org or call him at (520) 623-7223 x308.
October 19, November 16, December 14: Monthly Meetings for Community Advisory Council and City High Families Association
Visit the Parent & Family Involvement page on the City High School website to learn more about these 2 groups and how to get involved.
December 7: Music Performance Showcase
