Yo Soy Student Showcase this Saturday at Studio ONE

Come celebrate multi-media and multifaceted artistic representations of the power of identity. The Yo Soy Student Showcase is a mulit-media art show and reception focused on honoring and embracing students’ views regarding their own personal identities. The Yo Soy Student Showcase will be held this Saturday, March 4 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Studio ONE: A Space for Art and Activism, 197 E Toole Ave.

The Yo Soy project is part of Marisol Badilla‘s Spanish class curriculum. Throughout the project students learned about the verbs (ser, estar and tener) in the present tense, in order to reflect on how their identity is constructed based on their own perceptions of who they are, the actions they take, and the influential people around them. Students also learned about different stages of political consciousness in their investigations. All of these internal struggles and realizations were the inspirations for their Yo Soy poems and their artistic displays.
