Advisory Olympics at Jacome Plaza Weds. Dec. 20

City High has considered Jacome Plaza, the park surrounding the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, part of our extended campus for years. So when we heard that the Downtown Tucson Partnership was working on reactivating the space to be more usable for all of downtown’s populations, we were excited to help. If you haven’t seen the changes yet, make an effort to visit! There are tables and chairs and outdoor games, and lots of programming has been planned for the next few weeks.

One of the things we’re doing to make use of the space is the Advisory Olympics, scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, December 20. Instead of Whole School Meeting and Advisory that morning, students will descend on the plaza to compete in games like One-Legged Jousting, 4-Square, a Whiffle Ball Distance Throw, Musical Chairs, and Tug-Of-War. Students will compete individually to win points for their Advisory. Individual event winners will win school-related coupons, like a one-day pass for off-campus lunch, and the winning Advisory will win off-campus lunch together at a to-be-determined location. We’ll have a Spirit Fairy who will award bonus points to students who show enthusiasm and support for their Advisory and fellow classmates, and, since it’s December and it finally feels like winter outside, hot chocolate will be available. Classes will continue as usual afterwards. Let the games begin!
