Pennington Street Showcase April 21

Join us on Friday, April 21 for the Pennington Street Showcase! This Spring semester showcase event will feature student projects and performances from classes and after school programs from the current year and is hosted by City High School and Paulo Freire Freedom Schools. Join us for this important recognition of what young people can do to make our community a better place.

Please note that City High School will be holding a special schedule on April 21 to accommodate the Pennington Street Showcase. Students are expected to arrive at school no later than 1:30 p.m.. Release time for all students will be at 7:30 p.m.

Most of the exhibits and presentations from Paulo Freire Freedom School will be scheduled in the first two hours of the event, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.; City High School student presentations follow, mostly scheduled from 5:00-7:00p.m..

Here’s a sneak peek into some of the student learning that will be on display:

  • Social Entrepreneurship Demo Day: Watch students pitch their innovative business ideas on solutions to social and environmental problems to a panel of judges. Each team in Krista Gypton‘s class has three minutes to deliver their pitch! The winning team will have the chance to compete in Phoenix at the Seed Spot Next Demo Day in front of 3,000 people. The pitches will take place during the Pennington Street Showcase at our partner, Startup Tucson‘s, location next door at the Co-Lab Workspace from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Geometry Camera Obscura Demonstration: Experience similarity like never before!  Angela Marquez‘s Geometry classes will have the power of using similar triangles on display using an old-fashioned Camera Obscura. The installation will be in the lobby and will be open during the entire Showcase, 3:00-7:00 p.m.

These and many more exhibitions of student learning will be featured at the Pennington Street Showcase, as well as food trucks, community partner information tables, performances, and other fun activities. Hope to see you there!
