City High Senior to Compete in Citywide Poetry Out Loud Competition

Senior Rachel Gascho won City High’s school Poetry Out Loud competition with her performances of “The Kiss” by Robert Graves and “Diameter” by Michelle Y. Burke. Senior Jane Bendickson was the runner-up. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition where students choose poems to memorize and perform. Students are judged on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, and evidence of understanding of the poem.

Rachel will represent City High at the citywide competition at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the UA Poetry Center. The event is free and open to the public. Congratulations, Rachel, and best of luck at the competition!
