Principal’s Notes

Thanks to all who chipped in to help with the CEDO Scholarship Rummage Sale and the Alley Work Day on Saturday. Both were big successes. Events like these contribute to a good cause and strengthen our sense of community. See the list of parents, students, and staff who participated (on back). (Hopefully we didn’t forget to mention any of the volunteers!)

AIMS Tests Coming Up

All sophomores and some juniors will be taking the writing and reading portions of the AIMS test on Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 1. Division II students will have a special testing schedule on those days with school hours of 8:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. This means that Wednesday, March 1 will not be a “late start” for students taking AIMS. (Ninth grade parents, please note: Division I students will have regular school hours on those days.) AIMS, which stands for Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards, is a 3-part test with reading, writing, and math portions. Students must pass in order to graduate. Please mark your calendars at home and ensure that students are well rested and in attendance on February 28 and March 1.

City High Parents

Our new PTO organization, City High Parents, is doing a great job in their first year. They continue to meet monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:00-8:00 p.m. All parents and guardians are welcome to participate. The next meeting is Tuesday, February 21. On the agenda is planning the Staff Appreciation Breakfast on March 15 and Alley Work Day #2 in April.

Bike Storage

We are excited to have so many students and staff bike commuting to school these days. We are working to increase the number of bike racks along the sidewalk, so that bike parking is more convenient. Students who bring bikes to school need to lock them using the racks in front or store their bikes using the alley bike hooks. (Thanks to Brett Goble, Jon Riddick, and David Rule for installing the new hooks during the Alley Work Day!) We are working to keep the alley area organized and all exits clear (for fire code). Bike commuters: please do not store bikes inside, leave them in the alley on the ground, or walk them through the school. Thanks for your cooperation!

Rodeo Break

Please note that we do not have school this week on Thursday or Friday, February 23-24. Enjoy the Rodeo Break!

Keep up with what’s happening at City High School.
