Principal’s Notes

This quarter we will be piloting creating parent access to our student information system, Power School. Power School is a web-based program that can be accessed from any computer that has internet service. We are looking for parent volunteers who are interested in working with us during the months of April and May to create and access “guardian accounts”. Using Power School, parents can check on information about their son or daughter’s progress at school, such as overall grades, specific assignment grades, and attendance. We will look to the parents who volunteer this spring for feedback as we prepare to connect all parents to Power School next fall. If you are interested, please email me.

College Information Night

The next parent workshop on college planning will take place Thursday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. Representatives from Pima Community College and the University of Arizona will talk about specific programs and requirements of each institution as well as general concerns regarding college admission, costs, housing, etc.

Thanks to City High Parents

The PTO group “City High Parents” sponsored their second Staff Appreciation Breakfast on March 15. A big THANKS goes to Sue Gilles (Dan Schaller’s mom) for coordinating the event. Other volunteers and contributors included Malena Acosta, Francisco Blue, Kathe McGrath, and Christine Meissner. City High Parents meets monthly on the third Tuesday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. All parents and guardians are welcome to participate.

Lost and Found & Lost Items

Please encourage your son or daughter to check the lost and found for any items they might be missing – and parents should feel free to come in and check the lost and found themselves as well. All items that are not labeled with an individual’s name and have not been picked up by April 7 will be donated over spring break. We have had two students lose i-Pod music players in the past two weeks. Please reinforce with your son or daughter the following points: 1) if they find a misplaced valuable item such as a music player or cell phone, they need to turn it in to a teacher or administrator right away; 2) everyone should keep careful track of their own personal items and think carefully about what they bring to school; 3) there are storage cabinets for students when they need a locked area to store backpacks during field trips or elective classes.

Spring Break Coming Up

Mark your calendars: City High School’s spring break is the second week of April. Students will have no classes April 10-14. Please note that classes resume on Monday, April 17 (unlike TUSD schools which have off on that day).
