Spring Break is here!

Here are a couple reminders regarding the school schedule and upcoming events:

  • Friday, March 16th: No school for City High students. It is a professional development day for staff.
  • March 19th to March 23rd: Spring break! The school building will be closed during this time.
  • Quarter Three: Grades. Report cards for the third quarter will be mailed home during the spring break. Please make sure to check for them in the mail!
  • Monday, March 26th: Fourth quarter begins. The end of the school year is quickly approaching.
  • Mark your calendar: The Pennington Street Showcase is scheduled for Friday, April 13th. We hope to see you all there!


Family Night Thurs. March 8th: Student Poetry Reading

In partnership with the University of Arizona Poetry Center, City High School’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance is pleased to host a student poetry reading this Thursday night at Family Night, March 8th, from 5:30-6: 30 pm.

This showcase culminates our 6-week poetry workshop series led by Tucson Poet Laureate, TC Tolbert, who will also be reading.  This event is free & open to all friends and family, light refreshments will be served.

Rodeo Break- February 22 and 23

This week is a short one! City High School joins other district schools in Tucson in taking a Rodeo Break on Thursday and Friday, February 22 and 23. We will resume school on Monday, February 26. The next Spring Semester school days off will be Spring Break in March.

VOICES Partnership with UA’s Poetry Center

City High School’s VOICES after school program is excited to announce, in partnership with UA’s Poetry Center, a 7-week teaching residency with TC Tolbert, Tucson’s current poet laureate.

TC will be leading the free writing workshops every Monday after school, 3:15-4:15January 29th to March 12th. Hosted by our Gender-Sexuality Alliance in room 103, all students interested in any kind of writing are encouraged to commit to attending the entire workshop series. Opportunities like this don’t come along every day. There will be snacks.

The program culminates in a compilation of student work published by the UAPoetry Press and book release reading on May 12th at the Poetry Center.

Enrollment School Tours & Feb.1 Deadline

Enrollment Season for the 2018-2019 academic year is underway.

Families of 8th graders are already deciding on the right high school for their child.

If you know of an incoming sibling of a City High School student or family members still planning to apply to City High School, please encourage them to visit the ENROLL section of our website and complete a 2018-2019 application right away. Here is the link directly to our: APPLICATION. Our initial deadline to be included in the first enrollment lottery is February 1st.

SCHOOL TOURS: We have 2 evening tours coming up January 18 and February 1 at 5:30 pm. There are also 2 morning tours to look forward to on January 19 and February 16 at 8:30 am. This is a great opportunity to see our facility, learn about the history and academic program at City High School, as well as ask questions.  All prospective students and their families are encouraged to visit City High School for a school tour. VOICES Relaunches for Semester 2


City High School’s VOICES extended-day programming relaunches for Semester 2 on Tuesday, January 16th. All of our programming from Semester 1 will be returning with the addition of afterschool tutoring every day of the week.

Celebrating MLK Holiday – No School on Monday

City High School will be closed on Monday, January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Finals Week & Holiday Schedule

Next week, City High students are taking final exams and completing final projects in all their classes. School schedule and hours will remain the same Monday, 12/18 through Wednesday, 12/20. Thursday will have a special schedule but students will still get out at 3 pm. School will be dismissed early (12:40) on Friday, 12/22, unless a student has a make-up final. Teachers will notify families if there is a need to make up a final on Friday.

Here is the special schedule for the week:

Thursday, 12/21 – Special Schedule:

Period 1- 9:00-10:45
Period 3- 10:55-12:40
Lunch- 12:40-1:15
Period 5- 1:15-3:00

Friday, 12/22 – Special Schedule:

Period 2- 9:00-10:45
Period 4- 10:55-12:40
Lunch- 12:40-1:15
Make-Up Period- 1:15-3:00

City High School will be closed for Winter Break 12/23/17-1/7/18. Classes will resume Monday, January 8th. 

Art Show and Print Sale

Join us Thursday, December 14th for the City High School Art Show and Print Sale. Come between 5:30-7:00PM to purchase original artwork and printed notecards by our talented City High School art students. Snacks will be provided. Afterwards, take a nice short walk over to the Cabaret and catch opening night of The Handmaid’s Tale!



Tickets to The Handmaid’s Tale available now!

Tickets are available to City High School Drama’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, December 15, & 16 at the Cabaret Theatre at the Temple of Music & Art. Thursday evening is sold out!

Performances are at 7:30pm each night, with an additional matinee at 2pm on Saturday, 12/16. Seating is limited to 75 people per show, so act now to secure your seat(s).

Tickets are $5 for staff, parents, & community members, and are FREE for City High & PFFS students (middle school students must be accompanied by an adult).
