Lots Happening in the Community: Tucson Meet Yourself, Film & Music Festival, Get Moving Tucson

There are lots of big Tucson events coming up that do what we strive to do everyday at City High School: connect with our community, cultivate a strong sense of place, and help to make Tucson a wonderful city to live in.

Tucson Meet Yourself | October 12-14

A group of City High School sophomores will be volunteering at Tucson Meet Yourself next weekend as part of their humanities class.  TMY representative Billy Garza came to speak to the 10th grade American Studies classes a few weeks ago to recruit. The mission of TMY is To research, document, interpret and present the living traditional arts and expressions of everyday life of the folk and ethnic communities of the multi-national Arizona-Sonora region. This mission fits in nicely with the 10th graders’ first unit of study which is all about the cultural legacies of the Spanish colonial and Mexican periods in southern Arizona and northern Sonora.

The student volunteers so far include:  Liana Padilla-Tung, John Carlisle, Monique Zazueta, Alex McGary, Ashley Sanchez-Fishback, Austin Ellison, Rhonna Houlihan, Maya Thomas, and Josh Heath. Check out the TMY website to get details on what’s happening downtown next weekend: www.tucsonmeetyourself.org.

Get Moving Tucson | Sunday, October 21

We are recruiting walkers and water volunteers for the upcoming “Get Moving Tucson” Run and Walk taking place downtown on October 21. City High School is pulling together a team of walkers for the 1-mile walk and/or the 3K walk. We’d love to see a diverse group of City High students, staff, and family members come out to be a part of this team. We have scholarships to cover the entry fee for all interested City High School team members.

City High School will also be providing a team of volunteers to help staff a water station for the race event. The water station will be in the vicinity of City High School and the Downtown Library. Students, staff, and family members are also all invited to get involved in this as well.

Click here to sign up to walk or be a water volunteer.
