City High Hosts 3-Day Novel Contest

Every year since 1977, an intrepid group of writers and artists have tried to write a novel over the three days of the Labor Day Weekend. It’s a crazy idea. It’s also a lot of fun and a great way to test your creativity, endurance, and spirit. The International Three Day Novel Contest has become a worldwide phenomenon and once again this year City High School is joining the fun.

Over the Labor Day Weekend, City High will be open from 8:00 to 8:00 (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday) for students who want to take on the challenge of producing a work of art in three days. We welcome any student who wants to work on a writing or art project of their choosing. Writers do not have to attempt an entire novel in three days, though undoubtedly some will try.

Students do not need to be present the entire time and parents will be expected to sign them in and out. Snacks will be available, but students are encouraged to bring their own meal(s) and  snacks as well.  We have also invited students from Paulo Freire Freedom School-Downtown and Paulo Freire Freedom School-University. We are excited to have our younger novelists join us this year.

Staff will be here to provide feedback and support throughout the contest. Students are encouraged to work on any project without the pressure of completing or submitting it to be reviewed, though staff will select a winning manuscript to be City High School’s official entry into the contest.
