Eve Rifkin Chosen for Prestigious Crystal Apple Award!

Felix graduation

Congratulations to our Director of College & Career Readiness, Eve Rifkin, for being selected for this year’s Crystal Apple College Counselor Award! The prestigious Crystal Apple awards are given annually by the Metropolitan Education Commission to recognize outstanding educators and education advocates in the greater Tucson community. Eve will be honored at the 25th annual Crystal Apple Luncheon Desert Diamond Casino on Friday, May 8, along with seven other honorees, including County Supervisor Richard Elias and Former Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup.

Eve has been leading City High School’s commitment to prepare all of our students – and help them get access to – college admission and success since the school’s founding in 2004. In 2013 she became City High School’s Director of College & Career Readiness, a position that includes coordinating the internship program, teaching the senior seminar class in which all 12th graders explore and develop their postsecondary plans, and guiding college- and career-oriented activities for all students in grades 9 through 12.

Eve is an especially passionate advocate for first generation students, i.e. those who will be first in their families to attend college. In the photograph above, Eve is pictured with Felix Valencia, City High School Class of 2010, at his graduation from the University of Arizona in December 2014. Felix is one of the many first generation students Eve has coached and counseled on the trajectory into college over the past decade.

Congratulations, Eve!
