Letter from the Principal: Reopening & Information Webinar

Posted by City High School (Tucson, AZ) on Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Greetings Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

Thank you all so kindly for your support and patience. As we strategically prepare for the new School Year 2020-2021 during these unprecedented times, there is much to be learned and developed by all of us. We want to assure you all that we are collaboratively and diligently working on a strategic return to school with safety and equity for all being our priorities. Given the historical context of our present time, clearly there is no Google Search for the answer. We are conducting ongoing research and data monitoring in order to adequately guide our reasoning and decisions. We are maximizing our resources at a local and federal level, and are planning according to guidance by legislature and scientific organizations.
With that stated, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, our Executive Director, Chad Blair, had sent out and posted a Strategic Four Phase of Learning Plan. Given the current Executive Order (2020-44), we are not legally able to physically open our space for learning until August 17th. However, for good reason, we have decided that we do not want to wait until August 17th for school to begin at City High School and so we are continuing with our initial return date of Thursday, August 6, 2020 via virtual learning ONLY. Here is the School Calendar for your reference.
Attached you will find the new City High School Bell Schedule adopted. It displays what learning will look like for Phase II (Distance Learning) and Phase IV (All In Person Learning). We will cover the following in more detail, but here is insight as to how the phases are structured:
– Phase I will only be virtual learning with no in school support. To be clear, students are not allowed on campus to learn or for supports per Executive Order (2020-44). This phase will focus on student technology needs and skills, organizational skills, synchronous and asynchronous training, team building, and student orientation needs. We will provide you with more structured details as we approach Thursday, August 6, 2020.
– Phase II is projected to begin on Monday, August 17, 2020 (this would only be shifted if Executive Order directs so) which will be all virtual learning (distance learning) with student supports available on campus. Phase II will be formal curriculum and learning through synchronous and asynchronous structures. It is important to note that Phase II learning will align with the periods and times on the bell schedule.
– Phase III is a hybrid transition to Phase IV, a normal education environment. We do not have tentative dates to these phase transitions as they are being explicitly guided by legislature, school specific data, and guidance from state and federal health organizations.
Please join us for an information webinar session on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. We will provide you with more details about City High School’s reopening and address your many questions. This webinar will be recorded and posted for future review and reference. Please be sure to also monitor our City High School webpage for ongoing information. Thank you and we look forward to this next school year!
