City High Seniors Participate in Border Writing Workshop with Arizona State Museum

In January, the Period 3 English 12 class participated in a month-long workshop series called Exploring Walls through the Arizona State Museum. Local writer Marge Pellegrino and Arizona State Museum Head of Community Engagement (and parent of a City High graduate) Lisa Falk led the series, which was inspired by the traveling exhibit A History of Walls: The Borders We Build

Students researched the Berlin Wall, the Israel/West Bank barrier, the Great Wall of China, and the US/Mexico border wall, and wrote poems inspired by what they learned. The series culminated in the creation of a class poem, with lines contributed by multiple students.

You can read the poem the class wrote and hear a recording of the poem on the Arizona State Museum’s website.
